Kenya Safari - Empty Gas Tank - Great Senior Couples - Lioness Roaming Neighborhood where Senior Couples Live

 

We visited Nairobi, Kenya for various reasons. Here we are at the Church distribution center, picking up manuals, and a full suitcase order for the mission. 

There is also a new mission office being renovated here since they are opening a new mission in a month. 

While here we had an opportunity to go into the National Park, minutes from our hotel and the senior couple apartments here.

This gives you an idea how close the National Park is to the big city.

A couple of clever looking little Jackals walked by.

These Rhinos were near the small lake with the Hippos. While we were watching, a car drove on the dirt road very close to them. Not what I would do. Notice the little white birds hanging out with them?

We caught glimpses of lots of Hippos bobbing in the lake, including their babies. Amusing.

One of the motivating phrases for shy missionaries in our mission is, "Open Your Mouth". Then one of these hippos decided to show us how it's done...

This big Croc was almost blocking the road. What if we ran out of gas in the park. Would you walk down these roads?

At the end of the day on the way out of the park, a Giraffe was blocking the road and heading for the exit. He changed his mind since all the Baboons were hanging out there. 

This National Park doesn't have full fences so these wild animals could leave the park if they want to. The YouTube link below talks about a recent event where a Lioness roamed a neighborhood near the senior couples apartments, hunting dogs for food.

We were able to shop in Kenya for some hard to find items in Ethiopia and brought back the maximum number of suitcases.

These couples are wonderful people, paying for their expenses and donating a year and a half to the Lord Jesus Christ's work here in Africa. There are about 10 senior couple missionaries here in Nairobi.

We rented a car when we arrived. This was a different experience as well. There were no rental car signs of where to pick up the rental car and no one was there to meet us. Finally an airport employee called the person and they came to meet us. They showed us the sign with my name on it that they intended to have as we exited the airport, but didn't get word which flight we were coming in on. As they had no office at the airport, we did the car inspection in a parking lot. The drama continues...this was the first time I've ever rented a car in the world where the gas tank was empty and the warning light was on. The man assured me I had enough gas to reach the gas station, which was several miles from the airport. Luckily we made it. 

While on the roads in Nairobi, I had to pay my first African bribe to a police man who accused me of being in the wrong lane in a round-about. So crazy since the traffic was literally swarming and grid-locked in this round-about. It was crazy watching all the motorcycles driving on the sidewalks, crossing the medians, etc. We intended to visit the temple construction site but the traffic was too thick to get there and get back to the airport for our flight on time. I was very happy when I arrived at the airport on time and out of the traffic.
